Surround Sound— ISTD Awarded 2020
Surround Sound is the exploration of white noise, a sound that aids sleep quality for some but to others it’s deemed extremely uncomfortable.
My response represented the sound in a one-person enclosed installation, separating the participant from the surrounding distractions. A custom display type, ‘Static Regular’, was drawn to help visualise the audio within the space. All researched material was documented in a publication.
Phase II
In the formation of an open call, phase two of Surround Sound provides other designers to respond to white noise however they see fit. Static Regular was further developed to be used as a tool to respond with, if so desired by the participant.
An invitation holding instructions and the required audio was also developed. Held within a transparent envelope, this is to aid the call to action for other potential participants beyond the orginally targeted recipient(s).
